HUMAN RIGHTS || Venezuela

How did I arrive to this topic?
If you already may know I'm from Venezuela, and right now, my country is going through a dictatorship. Our human rights have been violated constantly. We can't even protest without having students sent to prison where they torture them, and which trials have been delayed day by day, claiming they're terrorists without any evidence. By date, approximately 300 students are in jail, most of them are injured by buckshot bullets, and 45 have died.

Where's the famous organization that looks for the well being of nations, that looks for the consummation of the human rights? The one that goes by "U.N." or "The United Nations".

When students camped in plazas and in front of the UN representative in our country, they gathered everything the Civil Guards threw to them (most of them tear gas bombs). Looks like a war museum.

The first part of the picture shows people holding the same thing an arepa, which is a typical plate in the country. And on top of it says "We all are Venezuela". This sends a message of union.
And the second picture shows civil guards with a 100 dollar bill in their mouth, meaning they're being paid lots of money for repressing the country they oath to protect.

This is an old video (click here if you can't watch it) because it says we have 2 weeks of protests, but it explains why we started them.

What are human rights? It’s not a tricky question. Human rights are the rights that we posses as human beings. For example: the right to education, the right to freedom of speech, the right to be treated equally, the right to peace, and so on.  I believe these rights are fundamental for the living of the entire world. These rights should always be respected and if not, demand them. No one ever should violate these rights.
The universal human rights were established when the United Nations was formed. I consider the UN a wonderful union of countries where they debate world problems and find peaceful solutions. They don’t believe in violence and try to avoid it. However, I see the UN as an utopia simply because there are countries which have veto powers on the problem of topic. Shouldn’t the solution be summited to a poll where all countries vote? Why does these specific countries have the final vote? The answer is simply because they’re world powers, they happen to be the most developed countries of all (also, because that’s the way it was established after WWII and, even though it’s obsolete, they stay the same way for power).
What I see is that if these powers (referring to these countries) are not being affected by the problem. Only if they are economically “affected” they can just pass the solution as unnecessary or ignore the possible riots and violation of the human rights that can be happening in Africa, for example.
Sadly, the world evolves around money and when your country’s money is being affected that’s when governments react and start taking action on problems.  Few people only care about humanity itself, about what’s happening around the world and how to obtain world peace. But it gets blurry when the UN doesn’t demand the enforcement of human rights because countries have the right for their democracy and to do “whatever” they want with it. But isn’t it obvious when the human rights are being violated? How can such big and important organization simply ignore the fact that thousands of children in Africa are starving? And that people in Uganda are being sent to prison just because they’re homosexuals? This is when I start to believe the UN works around the countries which have the last call.If these countries want to do something they do It, if not, well who cares about the children starving…people die anyway, don’t they?
My country has suffered several cases of the violation of human rights. An old example would be around the 50s when Marco Perez Jimenez was the president. Politicians who were opposed to the regimen were being arrested, killed, or tortured in hidden camps around the country. There was proof that all of this was true, and the UN sent people to check if it was true or not. At first, the president obviously denied everything and if I’m not wrong, they came for a second time but their entrance was denied because they had to respect the democracy of the country, and they should respect how the State was managing it. They left, and politicians or normal civilians who were against the regimen kept getting tortured. The UN “didn’t seem to notice something was wrong.” This ended when he was revoked of his role as president.
Now-a-days, Venezuela is in a very fragile situation where the people are sick and tired of waiting hours in line for buying some flour or milk they need to feed their families. There’s vaguely any variety of food in the groceries stores. One of the reasons is because companies don’t want to invest in the country anymore due to the fact that they can lose the company if they don’t follow exactly what the government wants for them. The company can easily be expropriated. Another example would be that the government instead of investing money on these companies or investing in the agricultural sector, which could bring a lot of employment for the people and help the economy, the use of the country’s money is being stolen and dissipated. This is one of the many reasons people are protesting on the streets right now.
This all started the day the students celebrated “Youth day” when traditionally, they go out onto the streets and nothing happens. The manifestation took another turn because the students weren’t celebrating the day;they were asking and demanding for solutions the country needs to move forward and get out of this economical crisis. Days before the students called everyone by social networking to the streets to demand what the people need. The government sent the national guards to the streets to apparently control the situation because the students started making riots and violent actions. People around the world have the right of freedom of speech, a human right. Things started to get out of hand when the guards starting attacking for no reason the students, which is against the constitution that states the people have the right of freedom of speech and to protest peacefully. That same day one student died and others were sent to prison.

Manifestations in Venezuela have lasted more than 3 months, causing 45 more deaths and more students sent to prison (approximately 300 are in jail) because of manifestations of their demands; they want freedom, food, justice, and democracy above all. Clearly there have been violations of human rights. News are only broadcasted by the people via social networking due to the fact that National TV doesn’t broadcast the riots, deaths, and violations the country is suffering. The government dares to blame all of this to the students stating that they’re violent and showing manipulated videos to the country and the whole world of what’s actually happening. They talk about how the students are vandals who mess with public transportation (busses) that have been burned or have broken windows, why don’t they talk about how students have been beaten almost to death and how the GNB have killed innocent people who were just peacefully protesting.
Also, another way to demonstrate the seriousness and repression this regimen has on us is that they cut out the signal of a Colombian news network which was the only one showing what was really happening in our country simply because the government thought "they were inciting people to violence". CNNE journalists were expulsed by the government and cancelled the permission they had on transmitting news in Venezuela.
Few countries, celebrities, and politicians have declared and sent prayers to our country due to the violation of our rights. Stating that the violence should stop and our right to protest and freedom of speech should be respected. This helps a lot because the world has been finding out what’s happening here thanks to the internet, how the roleof social networking has worked wonders for us.
And to this day, the UN hasn’t done a thing for us or at least pronounce that our human rights have been violated. I believe is because they don’t really care, nothing economically has affected them so “let those people be”. Here is where I doubt the seriousness and productivity of the United Nations. People are being threatened, beaten, killed every single day due to the fact the government doesn’t want anyone to express against them. And still no international help has been sent to us…

I'm very hopeful that our situation it's going to improve and we're going to get through this. Venezuela will found peace and justice.

Here's how celebrities have supported us around the world via twitter.

And let's not forget how Jared Leto showed his empathy in his Oscar Speech,
"...To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like the Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to say we are here and as you struggle to… to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible… We’re thinking of you tonight."

And here are videos that explain the situation and people around the world supporting us.
