I decided to binge-watch it before all the hype died down. It took me a long time to go through it. I didn't expect the episodes to be 45 minutes long and each season has 25 - 27 episodes. I got accustomed to 45 - 60 minute long episodes with 12 episodes by season or 20 min episodes with 25 episodes by season. Maybe back then it was more normal to have longer episodes. Not really sure.
I instantly liked the show from the first episode thanks to the show's dialogue. It's fast-paced, funny, and witty which is hard to see on TV and actually work. What captured my heart were the pop culture references.
Gilmore Girls is about a mother-daughter relationship, Lorelai raised Rory by herself, and throughout the years they've developed an inseparable bond. Lorelai and Rory have consumed every tv show, film, book, that has ever been created. Their conversations are fast, clever, and funny and all of them have to have a pop culture reference. This not only happens between them, but it also happens throughout the whole show with other characters as well.
I like to see it as a gift from the writers to the viewers. You can't enjoy Gilmore Girls to the fullest if you don't get the references. Sometimes, you don't even catch them. Every time I rewatch Gilmore Girls, I discover new jokes.
