A Letter Dedicated To The Women In My Life | #DearMe

. Sunday, March 8, 2015 .
This letter is in honor of Women’s International Day. For all those women who inspired me, here's a letter to my past self.

Dear Me,
You are probably noticing how the greater part of your family is made of women.
You’ve probably noticed that one of your aunts is a Dr., your other aunt works in the same office as your mom and they’ve got some pretty cool office supplies which you’ve managed to put your name in them.
Also, at school the majority of your teachers are women. They taught you how to spell and speak in two languages: Spanish (native) and English. Hello!

As you start to grow, your mom and aunt gather forces to build a business. They struggle at the beginning … Losing one of the best jobs to end up having to sell everything.
Seeing your mom siting behind a computer from 6 o’clock until midnight, begging her to stop working so much. Trust me, all those nights in front of a computer will pay off.
You start to build this idea of your mom and aunt of people who won’t quit, hard-working women who push and persevere until they get their desired results.
Your mom is never going to stop repeating these words, they pretty much become her mantra: “Perseverance” and “Resiliency”, and you learn from your aunt/2nd mom that you need to be noble, kind and help others every time you can–to have a big heart.
Your other aunt, studied medicine in Spain and in one of the most noteworthy universities in Venezuela: Universidad Central de Venezuela. She graduated as a physiatrist, and positioned in the first hundred people of her class–pretty smart! And, opened her own Rehabilitation Center.
Your sisters; one of them has her own business, she has this cool job where she works in TV commercials, TV shows, or movies. And, your other sister, she's truly the example of a strong person who doesn't stop for anyone nor anything.

Your school was started by an American woman who saw an opportunity in Venezuela. Opened a small school with no less than four classrooms (I believe) and now, she's opening another one in Costa Rica.
Each one of your teachers will encourage you and push you to know who you are and what you excel. By the simple comment: "Hey, you're really good at writing! Keep up your work" and little notes on finished essays that said, "Good Job!", "Loved it!" or "Very interesting" that will light a spark inside you for writing.
Your school has one of the best and most caring teachers. Brilliant women, expert on their field and very good at it. Their patience and willingness to teach is astounding and very inspiring even when you'd actually consider throwing a chair to a certain student who won't stop interrupting the class. And, your male teachers in school are a minority, but they will give you the same attention, encouragement, and tools you need to succeed and they will never treat you differently or less because you're a girl. Your school will leave you with memorable teachers and lessons.

You will meet your best friend in second grade. Her family? All women. Little by little you build a relationship and all of a sudden your mom and hers also become best friends. You learn about their history as a family and all the similarities you have with your best pal-makes you feel more normal. yourbest friend's mom has the bitterest past, but the sweetest present. She introduced me to the concept of the 'Lotus Flower' and she's the very best example of one.
Her sisters are the best! Most kindest and hard-working people you will know. One is a lawyer who owns/runs stores and the other one works abroad as an engineer.

You're going to grow up believing in equality because you never felt incapable of doing things whilst being a girl, and you were also surrounded by powerful, resilient women who shaped your life and your intellect to what you are now and what you will become. Yes, you will start to notice some unfortunate and unjust things about the world and how hard it is to be a woman nowadays; Nevertheless, all those women who conspired in your way, will be the concrete to build a new road of your own. They will be an example for you to make a change in the world, even if it's the smallest, and make it a more welcoming place for other women.

Look closely at the women who have helped shaped your life and their influence. Pay your gratitude by making a change for them and for other gals out there.
